There are two main applications for hair extensions, Individual Strand Extension and Wefts. When you get individual strand extensions you get the method of taking a small amount of hair, maybe 20 to 60 strands of the extension hair and the attaching those sections to your natural hair. This can be accomplished by weaving, heat fusing, clamping with a type of metal rod or using waxes. Except for clamping, all of these other methods involve putting a chemical mix onto your hair; make sure that this is what you want to do before jumping into it.
When you put a chemical on your hair you run the risk of damaging your hair. You can try weft extensions, a weft looks like a curtain of hair that is attached together at the top and free flowing at the bottom, it actually looks like a curtain. Wefts are made by hand and they are also made by machine. The handmade wefts tend to last longer, so if you choose this style of extension and you are looking for a long lasting extension, try handmade wefts.
Wefts are out in by braiding your existing hair to the weft and then it has to be sewn together. This takes time and is more expensive than the individual stand application. So if you want quality but you have to spend some money to look great then weft is the way to go. If you want something permanent then weft extensions also the way to go. If you want something more temporary and don’t mind the use of safe chemicals on your hair, some people don’t like it but if you use hair products, then you are already using chemicals on your hair. Individual Strand application is best for temporary hair.
